During the 2016 PONY International Board of Directors meeting, a decision was reached to change the date for determining player eligibility from April 30 to August 31. The rule change will take effect at the start of the 2018 PONY Baseball season. This decision was reached after careful consideration of input from leagues, parents, coaches and other sources important in the decision-making process. By making our program younger, all players will be competing on a level playing field. This change will ensure all PONY participants will play in their true age group.

As of the 2018 season, the age cutoff for Pony baseball players nationwide is August 31st. Your player will be placed into a division according to their age on August 31st of the season year. For example, if your player turns 9 years old on July 21st, 2019 your player will be placed as a 9 year old (Mustang) in the 2018 FALL season, even though he was 8 years old during the season. This will prepare him for Spring 2019.

Age Change:  PONY has changed the date for determining league age from April 30 to August 31.  Your child will now be placed in the Division as determined by his/her age on August 31.  Little League, Inc., has followed suit.  The ultimate effect of this change is to make each Division younger.

TYB Baseball has implemented this rule beginning with our upcoming fall baseball season.

PONY Baseball has changed the birthdate cut-off from April 30 to August 31 starting January 1, 2018.  What this means to your player is that if their birthday is May-August, they will now be the youngest player in their age group instead of the oldest.  Additionally players with May-August birthdays may age into a new division (Shetland-Pinto), (Pinto-Mustang), (Mustang-Bronco), while players with September birthdays and later will not.

Fall baseball is designed to be a developmental season that prepares players for the level and rules they intend to play in the spring season.  For the fall season,

As PONY is such an influential body, many leagues have or will be followed suit and adjusting their age cutoff as well.  This age cut off better aligns with the completion of the spring season and the school cut-off ages as well.
